April Favourites

April is ending – where is my life going?! Argh, stress stress stress. Thankfully I have these great products in my life to make me forget my woes for now. Ha. My favourite products in April were: Revlon Colourstay Foundation in Ivory (for oily/combination skin). I very rarely try new foundation but I was browsing through products at the store and the shade of this looked quite promising in the bottle and as luck would have it, it’s close to a perfect match on my skin. Now, wouldn’t it be great if we were charged the US rate of $12 for this foundation here instead of $40 so that choosing a “drug store” foundation actually mattered? Korres Tinted Lip Butter in Pomegranate. I love me a tinted lip butter and this one is gorgeous. A subtle shade of rosy red, this is a fruity smelling pot of delicious. MAC Mineralize Skinfinish in Porcelain Pink. This is one of my shop-my-stash re-discoveries and I’m so glad that I dug it out and can re-live my love for this product. I obsessed over it after seeing Pixiwoo use it in a tutorial once and it’s a beautiful highlighting pink shade with a hint of gold. I like to gild my face as much as the next gal but it can be hard to find gold shades that suit my skin tone. This is pretty much perfect. Original & Mineral Seven Day Miracle Moisture Mask. This is another re-discovery for me, and it’s the hair treatment that I’m currently making my way through for Project 50 Pan. It smells like a caramel milkshake and if I didn’t value my life as much as I do I’d probably drink the whole container. I’ve been using this on the ends of my hair while conditioning with my regular conditioner, as I am too lazy to go and get a trim.

Project 50 Pan (part 6)

As I mentioned in a previous post, I managed to finish up some big ticket project 50 pan items over the past couple of weeks. I’ve been finishing products quite steadily throughout this pan, so it hasn’t been too much of a struggle for me. Having said that, I do sense dry times ahead.

31: Pantene 3 Minute Miracle – I love to keep a few of these tubes on hand for hair emergencies. I think I have one left in my cupboard so I might try and make that last as long as possible (hopefully until the end of pan) but I will definitely have to repurchase these at some stage in the future. Possibly the best last-ditch hair saviour I’ve come across.

32: Lancome Hypnose Mascara – Another holy grail item for me, this time my favourite mascara. Luckily I have a backup of this in my cupboard ready to go for when I finish up the sample size tube that I’m currently working through.

33: Bath + Body Works Aruba Coconut Body Lotion – When Bath + Body Works launch a new fragrance range they usually have a limited time offer where you can buy a trial size of the product for $1 or so. I bought this body lotion during one of these promotions & used it almost exclusively when I was on holiday in Bali. Because of that I have fond memories of this scent, and as I like the formulation of the Bath + Body Works Body lotions in general I can see myself repurchasing this in the future.

34: Dermalogica Precleanse – This is my holy grail cleansing oil so I’m not sure how well I’ll fare without it, but I have a few other precleanse products that I’m going to try to use up before purchasing another bottle of this (which I will definitely do in the future).

35: Bath + Body Works Caramel Apple Anti-Bac Foaming Hand Soap – I usually buy 2-3 Bath + Body Works Hand Soaps every season and this was one of my Autumn picks for this year. I was kind of disappointed with the smell, it’s more of a medicine scent than anything too caramel for me. Having said that, my sister & other people who used this soap really liked it so go figure. I don’t think I’d opt for this scent when buying hand soap in the future.

Note: I don’t normally write mini reviews of products when I finish them up, but I’ve noticed that a lot of people do and it’s actually the way I prefer empties posts to be so I think I’ll stick to this format from now on.

Product Review + Giveaway: Burt’s Bees Herbal Blemish Stick

Let me introduce you to miracle worker. No word of a lie, this is probably the best anti-blemish skin treatment that I’ve ever used. But, as they say ‘promise small, deliver large‘ I’ll try not to gush too much. The first thing I noticed about this product was the smell, which I happen to hate with the fire of a thousand suns. It has a very strong herbal scent that to me smells distinctly like licorice. The smell does linger after you’ve applied the product, so I tend to only use this at night. The Burt’s Bees Herbal Blemish stick is 100% natural, vegan friendly and is free from parabens and animal testing. To use the product you basically dab it on to any spots that you might have on your face and let it work it’s magic. I tend to apply it to either my fingertip or a cotton bud instead of directly to the skin to prevent any bacteria getting into the product itself. As far as performance goes, this stuff is pretty amazing. The liquid dries almost instantly on the skin and has literally cleared up a few of my blemishes overnight. The Burt’s Bees Herbal Blemish Stick retails for $19.95 AUD and can be purchased online from Echolife. (note: this product was sent to me for consideration for review)

If you’d like a chance to win a Burt’s Bees Blemish Stick of your own, simply leave a comment on this entry. Please be sure to include your email address so that I can contact you if you’re the winner and note that this giveaway is open to Australian residents only. Entries close May 23, 2012. Good luck!

My sister in law’s friend recently expanded her jewellery line ‘Ilya’s Honey’ to include an online store, so I thought I would do a post to showcase some of her designs. Sephora, Strawberrynet & Haus of Gloi Haul

So when I mentioned slipping slightly in Project 50 Pan, this is exactly what I meant. Having said that, I can easily justify most of the things that I’ve bought recently. Let’s see how I go.

The Carol’s Daughter Rosemary & Mint Clarifying Shampoo & Conditioner have been on my wishlist for what feels like forever, but in reality since I received sample sized packets of them both with a Sephora order. I held off from buying these for quite a while because I need shampoo & conditioner like I need a third elbow, but I saw them pop up on Strawberrynet & I jumped at the chance to buy them without having to pay a billion dollars to parcel-forward them from the US. I also ordered a mega sized bottle of Dermalogica Special Cleanse from Strawberrynet, because I am getting close to finishing the bottle I already have and it’s the facial cleanser I use 95% of the time (iron clad justification). I’m down to the last few drops of my beloved Givenchy Photo Perfexion Foundation and went into a mild state of panic when I realised that the back up I had ordered from Strawberrynet a month or so ago had never arrived (and the payment had been refunded back into my account without so much as an emailed notification but whatever). Thankfully Sephora finally had my shade back in stock, so I ordered a bottle alongside the Stila Stay All Day Liquid Eyeliner to replace my close-to-being-completely-dry NYX Felt Tip Liner and also some Boscia blotting papers because a gal like me can never have too many blotting papers. So really the only completely unnecessary purchase here was the shampoo & conditioner combo, and I really wanted those so I’m not going to be too hard on myself. Now onto more mindless spending.

So the money that I mentioned being returned into my account earlier? This is where it went. I cannot justify these purchases in any way shape or form because I have enough vegan body products stored in my cupboard that I could probably turn to them as a food source in the event of an apocalypse (note: if I mention the impending apocalypse too much, let me know). So that’s it! My fall from grace well documented and now we’re ready to move forward. I’ve finished up some more big ticket P50P items so there will be a Pan update coming up in the next week or so.
