Product Review: Dove Pure Care Dry Oil

It’s been quite a while since something has come along that is good enough to be welcomed into my daily hair-care routine. The Dove Pure Care Dry Oil has easily been my favourite product over the last few months, and I now use it in place of my all time favourite Kerastase Nectar Thermique (you guys know how much I L-O-V-E nectar thermique, so that should be an indication of how much I like this oil). It’s a medium-weight oil, so I tend to use one pump and distribute it evenly through the ends of my hair before blow drying. It does an amazing job at making my hair soft and shiny, helps reduce the frizz factor (even during the seemingly endless period of rainy days we’re experiencing lately), and smells divine (soft and sweet and slightly powdery). The scent doesn’t transfer to the hair once it’s dry so if you’re not a fan of fragranced products that linger, you’re in the clear. The price is reasonable in my opinion, as this will be a long-lasting product and will end up being great value for money if you use it as sparingly as I do. The Dove Pure Care Dry Oil retails for $19.99 AUD and is available for purchase from Priceline, Coles, Woolworths, and selected pharmacies throughout Australia (note: this product was provided for consideration for review).

Autumn/Winter Hair Care Essentials

evo normal persons Shampoo & Conditioner – I’ve loved every single product I’ve tried from the evo hair care range, and the ‘normal persons’ shampoo and conditioner duo is no exception. It also happens to be a new favourite of mine, and I’ve been washing my hair with it every week for a couple of months now. These products are aimed at people with normal to oily hair (bingo), are nice and lightweight, and feel like they’re gently clarifying my hair with every wash.

LUSH Big Shampoo – I tend to make more of an effort to style my hair in the cooler months of the year (mostly because it’s not as much of a living hell to use heat styling tools on my hair as it is in summer), which means I use more products. I use LUSH’s Big Shampoo once a week to help strip all the excess product from my roots. I’ve repurchased ‘Big’ three or four times now, and it’s firmly cemented it’s place as my all-time favourite clarifying shampoo.

Unico Protein Treatment – I let it go far too long between hair cuts recently, and my hair was in dire need of some hard-core conditioning. I use this once a week as a deep conditioning treatment, and also on the ends of my hair every couple of days to help keep my split ends in check. I really like this treatment because it gives a heavy-duty moisture boost without weighing down my hair.

Tresemme Heat Protectant Spray – Lets face it people. Nobody likes getting out of bed in the morning. Let alone when it’s 2 degrees and pitch black outside. The fastest way for me to ‘style’ my hair is to straighten it, which I’ve been doing a lot lately. I use this bad boy before blow drying my hair on days that I know I’m going to be straightening it afterwards.

Kerastase Nectar Thermique – This is one of my all-time favourite hair products, a ‘holy grail’ if you will. I use this every day before blow drying my hair (except for times like right now, where I’m running out and I’m too scared to finish up the tube without having a back up in my cupboard). This does such a great job of smoothing down the frizziness of my hair. I couldn’t live without it.

Product Review: O&M No Knott Conditioning Detangler

Depending on how long it is and what condition it’s in, my hair can be a real pain in the you-now-what to comb through after a shower. I’ll often use a detangling spray to help me comb through my hair without breaking it and causing too much damage. The O&M No Knott Conditioning Detangler initially lured me in with its fruity apricot scent and then kept my interest with its ability to detangle my hair without overloading it with product. No Knott contains both argan & macadamia oils, which ensure that my hair is left feeling soft and silky every time I use it. If you’re in the market for a good quality detangling spray that also helps to condition your hair, I highly recommend this. O&M is fast becoming my favourite hair care brand and I can’t wait to try more products from them in the future. The O&M No Knott Conditioning Detangler retails for $28.95 and is available for purchase from Luxe List. (note: this product was provided for consideration for review)

June Empties

Dermalogica Special Cleansing Gel – Yes, I have started buying the massive 500ml pump bottles of this product because I love it so much. It’s my holy grail cleanser and I will be using it until my skin starts to hate it, (which hasn’t happened yet, after a good 3 years or so of use) but here’s hoping it never does.

Serge Lutens Un Bois Vanille Fragrance – This is my signature scent and I had a back up bottle ready to go as soon as I used up the last of this one. Un Bois Vanille is the most beautifully complex smoked vanilla scent that I’ve ever had the pleasure of wearing and I adore it.

Skindinavia No More Shine Makeup Finish Spray – To be honest I still wasn’t completely sold on this product at the start of June, but then I skipped a few days of using it and noticed that my makeup definitely didn’t last as long throughout the day. So apparently it does work after all.

L’Oreal Sublime Mousse Conditioner – I used up another two of these mini conditioners from my cupboard and I’ve whittled down my collection of old hair dye conditioners to two, soon to be none. Success!

Haus of Gloi Troika Soft Bubbling Scrub – This was the first body scrub that I’d ever tried from Haus of Gloi and I wasn’t disappointed. It smelled nice (sort of like sweet bitter almond) and the scrub did it’s job without aggravating my sensitive skin. Despite my general ‘meh’ attitude towards body scrubs in general I would consider repurchasing this in the future.

Haus of Gloi Milkmaid Whipped Soap – I loved this product, and reviewed it last week. I will definitely buy this again if the Milkmaid scent ever gets re-released.

Lancome Hypnose Doll Eyes Mascara – I liked this product but didn’t love it as much as the regular Lancome Hypnose formula. For some reason this one seemed to transfer to my upper lid after applying it.

Benefit They’re Real Mascara – All I really want from mascara is something that thickens without clumping and adds a bit of length (but not too much) to my lashes without transferring or flaking. This did just that. I loved this mascara and will be buying it again at some stage.

LUSH Honey I Washed The Kids Soap – This soap came in a Lust Have It box months and months ago and I’d just kept it in my bathroom without using it because it smelled so nice. I’m glad I finally got around to using it though because it was quite nice. I’m not sure if I’d bother repurchasing it though, purely because there are so many different soap scents out there that I want to try.

Benefit The Porefessional – I really liked this primer and did notice a difference in the general look and feel of my skin when I used it. I would consider buying a full size of this in the future.

L’Occitane Ultra Rich Face Cream – This was nice but nothing special. The feel of the moisturiser reminded me a little bit of the Weleda Almond Facial Cream which I really like, but it was hard to gauge how much I liked this product after just one use.

Pantene Daily Moisture Shampoo & Conditioner – These were nice and I do like Pantene hair care in general. Nothing outstanding though, and nothing that would make me rush out to buy a full sized version of either.

Weleda Almond Soothing Facial Lotion – I loved this moisturiser and I plan on purchasing a full tube of it once Spring/Summer comes around again.

Basic Earth Botanicals Revive Body Wash – I think I might have stolen this from a hotel bathroom (I can’t remember which one), but I shouldn’t have bothered because it smelled gross.

Sasy N Savy Rose Lavender Hand N Nail Repair Creme – This smelled wonderful, like a soft turkish delight rose scent rather than anything too overpoweringly floral. The name n stuff still bothers me and the size of the sample was too small to get anything more than one use out of.

CK Shock Eau De Toilette – I really like the scent of this perfume but CK perfumes last for around 5 minutes on my skin before becoming a distant memory. For that reason I wouldn’t bother purchasing a full size of this.

Bioderma Créaline H2O – So nice but so expensive. I liked it but am not sure I’ll buy a full size. Watch this space.

Kérastase Nectar Thermique – I used this after trying the sample of the Ciment Thermique and found it to be a lot more moisturising on my hair. Both products are absolutely incredible though, and I plan to buy a full sized bottle of this soon.

Kérastase Ciment Thermique – I was surprised at how long this sample managed to last me, and I loved the product so was really happy to have it sitting around for so long. I used it prior to blow drying my hair and it helped to prevent fly aways and really left my hair looking silky and soft.

Current Hair Wish List

Kevin.Murphy Powder Puff Do you suffer from pancake hair? I do. Watch this video by the beautiful Slavisa and see if you’re not instantly sold on this product. I saw a TV ad for the Schwarzkopf version of this which also looks quite promising and for $8.99 it’s definitely the cheaper version. I would be interested to try both out and see how they compare.

Kerastase Resistance Ciment ThermiqueI received about 10 sample packets of this in one of the Australian luxury subscription boxes last year (I can’t remember which one, sorry) and I’ve only just started to try it out. I love this stuff. I use it prior to blow drying my hair and it helps to seal the ends of my hair and make my hair soft & shiny. I will hopefully be purchasing a full sized bottle of this sometime in the future.

O&M Queenie Firm Hold HairsprayFinding a decent hairspray is the bane of my hair styling existence so I’ve got my hopes set on this pretty little number from one of my favourite hair care brands, O&M. I’m really curious to see what this smells like too, as O&M products always smell amazing.

evo Love Touch Shine SprayI am halfway through my Moroccanoil Shimmer Spray but I’ll be looking to try something different when I’m finished the bottle, and at the top of my ‘shine serums to try’ list is this product. I love everything that I’ve ever tried from the evo range, so I have high hopes for this.
