Holiday Snapshots

As I mentioned in previous posts, my partner and I spent the last weekend down in the south west wine region. It was a lovely little break and although we didn’t do a lot of stuff, being able to relax for a few days was wonderful. Isn’t it amazing how you can go away and not set an alarm and still wake up before the sun comes up? Stupid body clock. Anyway, the weather was beautiful and we had a lovely time. Here are some snapshots from our little holiday –

My Day Planner

I just ordered myself a new day planner (I decided to go with another Lilly Pulitzer large agenda – the hard cover was the winning feature), and I thought it might be a good time to do a little post on how I use it. I’ve used a Lilly Pulitzer large agenda for 2 years in a row (so far), and I really like it. I carry it with me every day and the hard cover does a good job at making sure the whole thing doesn’t get totally destroyed. It’s rather chunky, so if you’re looking for something sleek and slimline, this will not be the agenda for you. The calendar runs along the US school year, which means it spans from August through to December of the following year. I don’t mind this, because I often plan things like holidays quite far in advance. Also, I find that around June/July is when I’m feeling refreshed and have more time to focus on working on a new agenda. I order my planners from Glitzy Glam, they’re $28, and shipping to perth costs $25, which is still cheaper than the Erin Condren life planner I was thinking about buying – and that’s before shipping.

The agenda comes in a few different cover designs each year. The one I’ve been using (and pictured above) has crabs and lobsters all over it, which I thought was pretty cute. This year I order the Loopy Lilly design, because I love the navy and pink together. Also, elephants. The agenda comes with two pockets at the front, which I use to story party invitations, bills/recipes that I’ve printed off while I’m at work and have yet to transfer out, my gym schedule, and a whole bunch of stickers. The agenda comes with one sheet of stickers that I use alongside the Martha Stewart home office reusable stickers (mine have more colour options because my Aunt kindly sent them to me from the US), and a variety of star stickers throughout the planner. There are full year calendar pages that I use to track when I’ve booked leave off of work, to ensure that I’m spacing out my time off throughout the year. I tend to use the month-at-a-glance page more than any other section of the planner. I colour code everything, which makes it easy for me to glance at the page and see what my plans are (eg: pink is social events, yellow is work related, blue is for exercise/gym stuff, etc), and I circle off each day as the weeks progress. I use the stars that I mentioned earlier to track my workouts, as part of the ‘gold star challenge’ that I partake in. This is a good way for me to glance at the month as a whole and see how I did, excercise-wise. The reusable Martha Stewart stickers are used to track things that I need to do monthly/once every couple of months. Once I’ve completed whatever the sticker says, I move it to the next month or further along in the year. For example, I try to deep clean the fridge once a month. Once I’ve gotten around to doing it, I’ll move the sticker to the to-do list on July’s month-at-a-glance page. Or, my other half gets paid once a month – so once he’s transferred his contribution to the mortgage/bills/food for the month, I move the ‘rent’ sticker across. This is a great way to keep track of things that otherwise might fall by the wayside. I find it particularly helpful when it comes to things like tracking when the cat needs her de-worming tablet, because this is something that happens every three months and it’s easy to forget. The week-at-a-glance is really just an extra section for me to re-iterate what my plans are and I don’t use it very much.

So that’s my day planner. I’d love to see what you’re using and how you’re using it, so if you follow up with a post like this, please let me know. I also have a whole other method of tracking my to-do list for the week and for life in general, so if you’re interested in seeing a post about that be sure to let me know!

Holiday Snapshots

I’m back from my week in Bali, and already wishing I could go back. It was a wonderful holiday, and I’m trying to see the bright side of returning to the cold weather by looking forward to snuggling up with some new books and old favourite TV shows.

Holiday Snapshots

I’m not sure if anybody noticed that I disappeared for a couple of weeks, but if you follow me on Twitter and Instagram, you’d know why. I went on a little road trip adventure across Australia, and of course I took some pictures along the way. We started in Adelaide and drove back to Perth via Port Lincoln, Ceduna, Cocklebiddy, Esperance, and Albany. It was amazing.

Holiday Snapshots

It occurred to me that I hadn’t done my regular ‘holiday snapshot’ post from my trip down south with friends a couple of months ago, so here it is! We had an amazing time, stayed in a wonderful house with a beautiful view of the bush (including an on-property billabong), drank copious amounts of wine (for some reason we bought a lot of South Australian wine, despite being the Margaret River region), and ate far more cheese than any human should eat over the course of four days. So basically, it was perfection.

The Liebster Award

A big thank you to Dustyn for nominating me for this award. I don’t think I follow enough blogs to nominate a group of bloggers that haven’t already been nominated, so I’ll just be answering the questions for myself like the greedy little rat that I am.

– 11 Random Facts About Me –

01) I love writing lists.
02) My middle name is Lee.
03) I once inhaled toothpaste and nearly choked to death.
04) I love sweet potato but I don’t like pumpkin at all.
05) My coffee of choice is a soy latte with an extra shot.
06) I am an ISFJ.
07) This was the picture that sparked my obsession with style and beauty.
08) I am something of a human shazam. 9 times out of 10 if you play me a song I will know the name of it and most of if not all the lyrics.
09) One time in highschool I was so afraid that I was going to receive a joke award that I stood up to leave early and fell on an international exchange student because my leg had gone to sleep.
10) I have a really hard time part-reading books. Even if I don’t particularly like the book I’m reading I will always make an effort to finish it.
11) My favourite movie of all time is The Blues Brothers.

And now, some questions from Dustyn –

What was your first beauty product you can remember?
I remember being in primary school when my great grandmother took me to David Jones (Aherns at the time) to buy some skin care because she was adamant about how important it is to moisturise your skin. The first product I can remember owning was a Red Earth facial moisturiser that she bought for me and I still remember the smell of it to this day.

If you could choose how the world ends, what would you choose?
Either by zombie apocalypse, because it’s the kind of apocalypse I feel I am most prepared for (due to my obsessing watching of every single zombie film every produced) OR a megashark vs giant squid scenario, just because it would be a hell of a ride.

What is your best organizational tip?
I think it would be to make sure everything has a place and to always put things back in their designated place once you’ve finished using them. I also try to go through and chuck out 10 or so items of clutter once a week. It’s probably a little bit too easy for me to throw things out, but there you have it.

If you were on death row, what would your last meal be?
Probably a whole bucket of KFC chicken and a family sized chips (with gravy) followed by a whole cheesecake so I would be filled with the ultimate food-regret and welcome death with open arms.

Have you ever been on TV?
I was in a friend’s movie, not sure if that counts? Other than that no, but one time I saw this girl who looked exactly like me featured on one of those music video request channels so I’m kind of convinced I have an evil twin out there somewhere.

What animal would you choose as your “totem animal”?
My big fat lazy beagle Ben.

If you could have sex with any superhero, who would you choose and why?
Spiderman because ANDREW GARFIELD.

Can you fake any accents?
Not very well, no.

What is the first thing you can remember of me?
I remember thinking how cool your name is.

Choose one sense and one sense only. That’s it for the rest of your life.
I have to be practical here and say sight.

Rollercoasters, yay or nay?
Most definitely YAY.
