Product Review: Dermalogica Age Smart Skin Perfect Primer

Face primer sits somewhere in between eye cream and body exfoliant when it comes to products that I’ve never been 100% sold on. There have been one or two products that have pushed me towards believing that face primer is of some benefit in my daily routine, but I admit that I was still skeptical when I first started trialling the Dermalogica Skin Perfect Primer. This is a great product, but unfortunately it’s not one that I can use every single day because of the effect that it has on my skin. I’m not sure if my face is particularly sensitive to an overload of products, but if I wear this for 3 or more days in a road I start to break out. Having said that, I still wear this on days where I want my makeup to stay in place for a particularly long time because it works wonders for that. It also does a great job of evening out my complexion before applying makeup, and has the additional benefit of containing SPF 30 (the more sunscreen the better, right?). The Dermalogica Age Smart Skin Perfect Primer retails for $79 AUD but is currently on sale and available for $59.25 from Adore Beauty. (note: this product was sent for consideration for review)

Current Skin Care Routine

My face has finally settled down after it’s typical ‘oh god a new season, time to freak out!’ episode, and I’m really happy with my skin care routine at the moment so I thought it would be a good time to share it with you all.

Cetaphil Gentle Cream Cleanser – I slather this over my face and wipe it off it with cotton pads to remove my makeup before hopping in the shower at night and properly cleansing with the Dermalogica Special Cleansing Gel.

Dermalogica Special Cleansing Gel – I’ve mentioned this quite a few times before, and it’s really the only cleanser that I use. I now buy the giant pump top bottles because they last a longer than the smaller bottles (obviously) and the packaging makes it so much easier to use when I’m in the shower. I only ever cleanse my face at night, so I use this in my shower in the evening.

Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant – I’ve really cut back on the amount that I exfoliate my face and my skin seems to be thanking me for it. This is my holy grail facial exfoliant and I use it once or twice a week in the morning or evening – depending on when I feel that I need it most.

Echolife Lavender Face Mist – This is such a gentle and soothing face spray, I think I’m going to cry real tears when I run out of it. I use this every time I get out of the shower before putting on my serum/moisturiser.

Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Moisturiser SPF 15 – This is my favourite warm weather daily face moisturiser and I wear it every day.

Weleda Almond Soothing Facial Oil – I use this at night after I’ve spritzed my face with the Echolife Lavender Mist. I pat a couple of drops of the oil into my skin and let it sit for a couple of minutes before applying my moisturiser.

Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Creme – I use this as a day time moisturiser in the cooler months of the year, but when it gets too hot to have anything heavy on my face I stick to using it as a night cream only. I layer this over the Weleda Almond Oil in the evening and I swear to god it is the most soothing and nourishing combination that I’ve ever come across.

Benefit It’s Potent Eye Cream – I really like this eye cream and I use it every morning and night, but I think that when I run out of this little deluxe sample jar I’m going to switch to the Kiehl’s Creamy Avocado eye cream instead.

The Body Shop Tea Tree Blemish Stick – Why do all spot treatments have to smell so flipping bad? I like this product, it does the job pretty well. I don’t break out that often so to be honest I’m not really that phased on what spot treatment I use.

Sephora, Strawberrynet & Haus of Gloi Haul

So when I mentioned slipping slightly in Project 50 Pan, this is exactly what I meant. Having said that, I can easily justify most of the things that I’ve bought recently. Let’s see how I go.

The Carol’s Daughter Rosemary & Mint Clarifying Shampoo & Conditioner have been on my wishlist for what feels like forever, but in reality since I received sample sized packets of them both with a Sephora order. I held off from buying these for quite a while because I need shampoo & conditioner like I need a third elbow, but I saw them pop up on Strawberrynet & I jumped at the chance to buy them without having to pay a billion dollars to parcel-forward them from the US. I also ordered a mega sized bottle of Dermalogica Special Cleanse from Strawberrynet, because I am getting close to finishing the bottle I already have and it’s the facial cleanser I use 95% of the time (iron clad justification). I’m down to the last few drops of my beloved Givenchy Photo Perfexion Foundation and went into a mild state of panic when I realised that the back up I had ordered from Strawberrynet a month or so ago had never arrived (and the payment had been refunded back into my account without so much as an emailed notification but whatever). Thankfully Sephora finally had my shade back in stock, so I ordered a bottle alongside the Stila Stay All Day Liquid Eyeliner to replace my close-to-being-completely-dry NYX Felt Tip Liner and also some Boscia blotting papers because a gal like me can never have too many blotting papers. So really the only completely unnecessary purchase here was the shampoo & conditioner combo, and I really wanted those so I’m not going to be too hard on myself. Now onto more mindless spending.

So the money that I mentioned being returned into my account earlier? This is where it went. I cannot justify these purchases in any way shape or form because I have enough vegan body products stored in my cupboard that I could probably turn to them as a food source in the event of an apocalypse (note: if I mention the impending apocalypse too much, let me know). So that’s it! My fall from grace well documented and now we’re ready to move forward. I’ve finished up some more big ticket P50P items so there will be a Pan update coming up in the next week or so.

Project 50 Pan (part 2)

06 – Passport Tahiti Moana Body Wash
07 – Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Moisturizer (I would repurchase this, but I have other moisturisers to use up first before I buy any more)
08 – Flourish Perfume Oil in Sugar (I will definitely be repurchasing this after P50P)
09 – Kosmea Organic Rose Mist
10 – Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant (One of my holy grail skin care items, if I didn’t have another of these in my cupboard ready to be used I would have repurchased and not included it in this tally)

I am busting through these empties like there is no tomorrow… Though having said that, I feel like I might be hitting a dry spell over the next month or so. We’ll see.
