August Fitness Chat

Wow, another month down. Isn’t it crazy how time flies? It all seems to go a lot faster when the second half of the year rolls around. As with my last few updates, I’m still not 100% back on track with my fitness plan. But at this stage I’m putting it down to a mix between the winter weather draining my motivation, and the bouts of illness I’ve been having over the past few months. I’m still not feeling better but there have been some really lovely days lately, with the sun out and the temperatures not too low, and I’m feeling more motivated now than I have done in the past few months. Onwards and upwards!

July Goals
I was slowly getting back into the swing of things this month, and kind of accomplished my goal of more gold stars in my planner. Well… there’s more in there than there was last month, I’ll say that much. As for visiting our local gym and trying out their services – no. That did not happen.

Monthly Goals
I’ll have unlimited access to a treadmill in September, so I want to focus on building back up to running again. I also want to undertake a kind of fitness ‘challenge’, and at this stage I think it’ll be the squat challenge from the Lorna Jane fitness diary. I also want to get my health on track, and my doctor and I have the ball rolling, and hopefully we’ll have something figured out soon.

July Fitness Chat

This post is somewhat laughable, as June and July were both complete write-offs in regards to fitness. If anything, I’ve probably regressed more than I’ve made any sort of progress this month. I can blame most of that on me only just now getting over a kidney infection (which is a pretty legit excuse in my eyes), and I also had a headcold last month that knocked me for six. Looking beyond that, it’s onwards and upwards for the rest of the year.

Monthly Goals
Sebastian and I are heading away this weekend, for a little getaway to celebrate his birthday. After that, it’s game on on the fitness front. We’ve both agreed to check out the local gym, who offer a free day pass for people to come in and look at/try the facilities available. On top of that, my main goal is to just get some gold stars happening on my calendar again. I’ll be starting slow, but I’ll have some bigger goals for when the weather clears up a bit in a month or so.

May Fitness Chat

Time for some May Fitness chat, better known in my mind as the working title ‘better late than never?!‘. As it turns out, getting motivation back after an overseas trip is quite difficult. I didn’t do too badly while we were away (I made an effort to swim some laps during our daily pool time, and walked quite a bit while exploring the area we were staying in), but since returning home I’ve done basically nothing. It’s time to get back into setting goals and pushing myself outside my comfort zone. My comfort zone, if you’re wondering, is on the couch watching 5 episodes of LOST a night before crawling into bed.

April Goals
Get back on track (physically and mentally) – I was progressing well before my trip, and mentally I feel ready to get back into the swing of things. I feel a lot more motivated now than I did earlier in the year, so I’m counting that as a success. Plan lunches – I’m not doing too badly in this regard, I rarely buy my lunch now and try to take leftovers (of our healthy dinners), or a salad for lunch. Increase weekly workouts to 4 per week – Nope. Keep a fitness diary – While I haven’t yet figured out how I’m going to use my Lorna Jane diary for this, I have been tracking all of my workouts and progress and I’m still using gold stars in my day planner to help keep track of my gym days.

Monthly Goals
Because I’m focusing on getting back into a routine, my monthly goals are not going to be too intense. Basically, I just want to reset myself mentally and get back into the swing of things now that I’ve returned from my holiday. I want to start tracking my food, so I can see what’s going on with my nutrition and where I can start doing a bit better with my eating (not eating 4 strawberries and cream Lindt balls a night could be a start). I want to keep track of my progress for each workout that I complete, and have a structure to my general exercise ‘plan’. It’s nearly June already (wtf guys), so I’m hoping to bump things up a bit next month.

* Kimberley mentioned Run Hundred on twitter a little while ago, and I think it’s such a great idea for a website and will be really useful the next time I’m looking to add some new music to my workout playlist. ** She also mentioned really liking the Yoga Studio App, so I’m downloading it to try it out this weekend. *** My top song to work out to at the moment is ‘Bounce‘ by Iggy Azalea.

April Fitness Chat

Wow, my arm looks gargantuan in that photo. It’s been a while since I posted anything fitness-related on the blog, which is probably because I’ve not been paying much attention to that aspect of my life lately. However, I feel energized and refreshed and back on track, and I thought it might be the perfect time to introduce a new monthly series of posts to the blog. Every month I’ll be checking in to discuss my goals, how I’m feeling, and interesting fitness-related things I’ve seen pop up around the place.

Monthly Goals
We’re half way through the month already, but better late than never. My main goal for the month is basically to get myself back on track, both physically and mentally. This has been a crazy year so far, but things are slowly settling down and I feel more capable of taking control of my health and fitness in general. I want to plan my lunches better (with the aim to make healthy options to take to work every day), I want to increase my weekly workouts to at least 4 a week, I want to keep a fitness diary (my new Lorna Jane planner should work with that), and I want to cut coffee out of my daily diet. I’m going to Bali in the first week of May, and you can bet that’s motivating me to WERK.

* I was in Kmart yesterday and noticed that they have quite an extensive range of workout clothes. I picked up a gorgeous green tank (pictured in the image above) for $15. You can bet I’ll be going back for more. ** If I’m ever short of motivation, I search through the #fitfam hashtag on Instagram. There are a lot of inspiring people out there, and there is always a picture of two to help motivate me to get off of my butt and move. *** I’m planning on whipping up some turkey meatballs to have for lunch during the week. I’ve never made meatballs before, so I’m interested to see how they turn out. I’ll keep you posted. **** I need a new theraband.
