Product Review: Dove Pure Care Dry Oil

It’s been quite a while since something has come along that is good enough to be welcomed into my daily hair-care routine. The Dove Pure Care Dry Oil has easily been my favourite product over the last few months, and I now use it in place of my all time favourite Kerastase Nectar Thermique (you guys know how much I L-O-V-E nectar thermique, so that should be an indication of how much I like this oil). It’s a medium-weight oil, so I tend to use one pump and distribute it evenly through the ends of my hair before blow drying. It does an amazing job at making my hair soft and shiny, helps reduce the frizz factor (even during the seemingly endless period of rainy days we’re experiencing lately), and smells divine (soft and sweet and slightly powdery). The scent doesn’t transfer to the hair once it’s dry so if you’re not a fan of fragranced products that linger, you’re in the clear. The price is reasonable in my opinion, as this will be a long-lasting product and will end up being great value for money if you use it as sparingly as I do. The Dove Pure Care Dry Oil retails for $19.99 AUD and is available for purchase from Priceline, Coles, Woolworths, and selected pharmacies throughout Australia (note: this product was provided for consideration for review).

Autumn/Winter Hair Care Essentials

evo normal persons Shampoo & Conditioner – I’ve loved every single product I’ve tried from the evo hair care range, and the ‘normal persons’ shampoo and conditioner duo is no exception. It also happens to be a new favourite of mine, and I’ve been washing my hair with it every week for a couple of months now. These products are aimed at people with normal to oily hair (bingo), are nice and lightweight, and feel like they’re gently clarifying my hair with every wash.

LUSH Big Shampoo – I tend to make more of an effort to style my hair in the cooler months of the year (mostly because it’s not as much of a living hell to use heat styling tools on my hair as it is in summer), which means I use more products. I use LUSH’s Big Shampoo once a week to help strip all the excess product from my roots. I’ve repurchased ‘Big’ three or four times now, and it’s firmly cemented it’s place as my all-time favourite clarifying shampoo.

Unico Protein Treatment – I let it go far too long between hair cuts recently, and my hair was in dire need of some hard-core conditioning. I use this once a week as a deep conditioning treatment, and also on the ends of my hair every couple of days to help keep my split ends in check. I really like this treatment because it gives a heavy-duty moisture boost without weighing down my hair.

Tresemme Heat Protectant Spray – Lets face it people. Nobody likes getting out of bed in the morning. Let alone when it’s 2 degrees and pitch black outside. The fastest way for me to ‘style’ my hair is to straighten it, which I’ve been doing a lot lately. I use this bad boy before blow drying my hair on days that I know I’m going to be straightening it afterwards.

Kerastase Nectar Thermique – This is one of my all-time favourite hair products, a ‘holy grail’ if you will. I use this every day before blow drying my hair (except for times like right now, where I’m running out and I’m too scared to finish up the tube without having a back up in my cupboard). This does such a great job of smoothing down the frizziness of my hair. I couldn’t live without it.

Product Review: Pantene Iceshine Shampoo & Conditioner

If you’ve never stared wistfully at this picture of Zooey Deschanel and wished you could wear her hair as a wig, we have absolutely nothing in common. Zooey was recently announced as a brand ambassador for Pantene, which was enough to reignite my interest and inspire me to try some of their new products. When I saw that they had released a range with no added silicone, dye, or parabens, I was curious to check it out. I’ve been using this shampoo and conditioner duo every week for over a month now, and my hair is loving it. Both have the typical Pantene “clean” scent to them (which I adore), and it means that my hair always smells delicious after I’ve use any Pantene products. FINE BY ME. After using the shampoo my hair feels clean without being stripped or tangled. The conditioner is light to medium weight, and it nourishes and conditions my hair without leaving it feeling weighed down with product. I’d say that out of all the Pantene products I’ve used in the past, these are up there with my favourites. The Iceshine Shampoo & Conditioner retail for $7.99 each and are available for purchase from pharmacies throughout Australia (please note: product was sent for consideration for review).

Product Review: Kerastase Bain Satin Shampoo

If I had to pick only one shampoo to use for the rest of my life, it would be this. This is the shampoo that I go back to time and time again, the one that I’ve repurchased at least five times since first discovering it, and the one that never lets my hair down. It cleans my hair thoroughly without leaving it feeling stripped or dry, and it has a lovely fresh scent that lingers on the hair for quite a while after rinsing. I wash my hair every day and this is gentle enough shampoo to use that often and it always leaves my hair feeling soft and silky. If you’re worried about the price point trust me, I feel you; but a little bit of this product goes a long way so I wouldn’t be too concerned about getting your money’s worth. I use the number 1 version of this shampoo (for normal to slightly sensitised hair), and it is also available in number 2 for dry and sensitised hair. The Kerastase Bain Satin Shampoo retails for $39 and is available for purchase from StrawberryNet.

March Favourites

01) Bloom Super Glossy Lips in Sheen – I discovered quite a few new lip product favourites after my lip week feature recently, one of which was this gloss. It’s a lovely nude shaded milky gloss and I’ll be featuring a full review of it soon.

02) Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment in Petal – As I mentioned in my review, I love this product. It’s the perfect no-fuss lip shade for days where I really can’t be bothered putting in a lot of effort (read: every single god damn day). Also, I’m still not sick of the strong sweet-lemon scent yet, which is good.

03) Bloom Lipstick in Tangerine – This is such a gorgeous shade, and was the perfect colour to wear as a farewell the warmer weather (although summer seems to want to stick around – piss off summer, you’re not welcome anymore!).

04) Terax Crema Conditioner – I’d forgotten how much I loved this conditioner until I started using it again recently. It’s one of the best hair products I’ve ever found and it’s firmly cemented it’s place on my ‘holy grail’ list, after many years of use.

05) Pure Fiji Coconut Infusion Body Lotion – I’ve mentioned quite a few times how much I love subtle-sweet smelling body lotions and this is now right up there with my favourites. It’s a lightweight lotion but as my skin isn’t dry that isn’t much of an issue for me.

Product Review: Clairol Professional Sparkle Shine Spray

I love shiny hair. The shinier the better. Granted there is a risk when using a shine spray or serum that your hair can look quite greasy but if you can avoid this; shiny hair is the best. I’ve tried a variety of shine products in my time, and I find that the best way to use them is to apply the product directly to the palm of my hand, rub my hands together and then distribute it evenly through my hair. The Clairol Sparkle Shine Spray doesn’t warrant me doing this, as the mist is fine and the product so lightweight that I can apply it directly to my hair. This makes styling my hair a much neater process in the mornings as I don’t end up with grubby little greasy palms. The smell is subtle and pleasant, a gentle perfume-y scent that I am clearly not doing a very good job of describing. The Clairol Sparkle Shine Spray retails for $19.50 AUD, for stockist information please visit the Clairol website. (note: this product was sent for consideration for review)
