Product Review: Burt’s Bees Nourishing Lip Balm With Mango Butter

What is great about this product…

The Burt’s Bees Nourishing Lip Balm with Mango Butter is the first “stick” lipbalm that I have used in a long time. In fact, the last stick lipbalm I used was probably a lip smacker back in high school. For some reason, (possibly because I’ve not had exposure to them for quite a while) I wasn’t expecting the stick lip balm to provide me with as much hydration as a pot or tube balm. I was really pleasantly surprised on using this product though. I’m not sure if it’s because of the Mango Butter included in the ingredients, but it feels very rich and nourishing on application. The balm smells delicious (sort of like lolly snakes, to be honest it doesn’t smell that much like mango to me!) but has no taste whatsoever. I really love the Burt’s Bees company and their ethics, and this lip balm is no different with the ingredients being 100% natural and cruelty free. It’s also great value for money, at $6.95 AUD for a tube that will no doubt last quite a long time.

What is not so great about this product…

Honestly, nothing that I can think of.

My Rating: 8/10

The Burt’s Bees Mango Butter Lip Balm retails for $6.95 AUD and is available for purchase in Australia from David Jones, Myer and selected pharmacies and health food stores nationwide. You can also shop the range online at Australian online beauty store Adore Beauty.

Style Inspiration – Pantene @ Brioni

I am on the constant search for inspiring spring/summer hairstyles at the moment, and this is one of my favourite so far! (the makeup looks pretty good too!) This look is from the Brioni show in Milan. Fashion hair styling by Pantene stylist Sam McKnight. Now will someone tell my hair to magically develop a natural middle part overnight? Thanks!

Newsflash: MAC Peacocky Collection

I lost the plot a little bit this morning when I read on Temptalia that MAC is releasing a “Peacocky” collection. Some of the standouts (aka things I need in my life) for me, seem to be…

Kissable Lip Colour: Exxxhibitionist (red-toned coral)
Kissable Lip Colour: So Vain (muted mid-tone coral)
Mega Metal Shadow: Dalliance (light champagne)
Mega Metal Shadow: Paparazz-she (deep copper bronze)
Mega Metal Shadow: Sexpectations (metallic burgundy)
Mega Metal Shadow: Odalisque (deep teal)
Mega Metal Shadow: Ego (forest green)

But seriously, what up MAC? Don’t you know that my birthday is in November?! How am I supposed to wait until January 6 2011 for this magic? Ugh. If you happen to be a fellow peacock obsessee like myself, or you’re just mildly interested, you can read about the entire collection here.

Newsflash: Kit Design Award Winner Announced

You may recall my post back in June announcing that the Kit Design Award nominations were open. Well the winner was Hannah Tometzki! Hannah is a 25 year old freelance web designer from the Gold Coast. A web designer by trade and a typographer at heart, Hannah’s favourite things include grey marle fabric, poppies, clean & white websites, Hello Pandas, quiet drinks with old friends, the colour peach, and being surrounded by creative people and objects. Hailing from England, Hannah won us over with her design of the kit logo taking shape which represents all the different elements (the many brands, products and people) that come together to form kit. “This year’s theme was ‘Taking Shape.’ I love branding and typography so I wanted to show how a strong typeface alone can make a brand come to life.” – Hannah Tometzki. The Kit Cosmetics Limited Edition KDA10 Spring Has Sprung Kit contains: Duo Lip & Cheek Creme (in Turn It On), Nail Polish (in Full Throttle), Lip Balm (in Wild Strawberry), And Kit’s SPF 30+ Face Sunscreen and is available for purchase while stocks last from October 11 2010.

September Haul

As with my previous “haul/roundup” type post, this is a collection of beauty products that I have either purchased, or been sent for review during the month of September. First up, body products…

First up is Bath + Body Works Warm Vanilla Sugar Body Lotion. I became obsessed with this product/scent during my trip to the US so my aunt was kind enough to post me another bottle, once mine had run out. (thankfully though, there is now HopShopGo!) Next is the OP Therapy “Miss Kate” Cookies & Cream Bath Milk. I had gone to the OP Therapy website with the intent of buying a body scrub (which I will mention in a second) and because for some reason I feel like it’s a waste to just buy 1 thing from a website at any one time, I bought this as well. And it smells divine. I’ve not used it in a bath yet, but will hopefully get the time to have one this weekend some time. Next is the Bath + Body Works Coconut Lime Verbena Body Lotion and Shower Gel. After discovering that I could order from B+BW using HopShopGo I went sort of mental on the website and had about 6054 items in my cart before culling them down. I felt like this would be a really nice summery fragrance, and while it is nice – it’s mostly lime, and I wanted the coconut smell to really come through so I’m a little bit disappointed. Then at the back is the new Nivea Firming Body Lotion that I received for review. I am yet to try this, but it is at the top of my list of things to trial. Next are two more Bath + Body Works products, the Exotic Coconut Body Lotion and Shower Gel. These smell delicious. Next (at the back) is a bottle of the Aveeno Daily Moisturising Lotion that I received in a swap. I’ve not used this yet, but it seems to be a lovely and natural scent free body moisturiser. Then two more (I know, I know) products from Bath + Body Works, this time the Pearberry Body Lotion and Shower Gel that you may recall me mentioning in a recent post. I do like the smell of these products but they are very sweet and could become overpowering. I think I will try to use these sparingly! Next (at the back) is the OP Therapy Summer Glow Pineapple & Papaya Body Scrub, which I bought at the suggestion of Holly from ‘Am I There Yet’. I’ve used this a couple of times (once without reading the instructions, oops) and I love it! It’s not heavily scented, but it smells lovely & summery which is what I was looking for in a body scrub. Finally is the Nivea Ultra Beach Protect sunscreen that I was sent for review. I haven’t had the opportunity to wear this yet (I’ve not exposed my body to the sun for a few months now, which is about to change with Spring well and truly here) but I am looking forward to slathering it on the first time I head to the beach this Spring!

Next up is hair products. I bought the Organix Nourishing Coconut Milk on the way to work one morning after I realised (when seeing reflection in the train window) that I was in desperate need of a leave in conditioning treatment! I do really love the smell of this product, and it seems to work well enough but I think calling the company “Organix” is a bit of a rip off, especially when the product cannot go anywhere near your eyes. If it was at all natural I doubt this warning would be so emphasised on the back of the bottle… Next is the Fekkai Apple Cider Clearing Rinse that I lemming’d after Emily from ‘The Love Of Pink’ mentioned it in her guest post at The Lip Print. I haven’t used this yet because I bought it right after colouring my hair, and I didn’t want to strip my hair of the colour. So I’ll use it sometime soon before my next trip to the hairdresser. Next are two sample sized Aveda products that my Aunt sent over to me along with the Bath + Body Works Body Lotion mentioned above. I don’t rate either of these products, they leave my hair feeling stripped, frail and excessively tangled. I would not repurchase full sized bottles of these.

Next up is skincare! I received both the Burt’s Bees Mango Lipbalm and Nivea Q10 Tinted Moisturiser for review, and have been using both products since receiving them so I will post my reviews soon. (hint: I like them both!)

Finally we have makeup! First is the NYX Jumbo Eyeliner Pencil in Milk, that I am yet to use. Next are two of the new Bloom Lip Duos (in Moon & Stars and Rain & Puddles) that I was sent for review. I have worn Rain & Puddles, but have yet found an opportunity to wear Moon & Stars (to me red will always be a nighttime colour) I loved Rain & Puddles when I wore it, it’s a creamy sort of plum colour, and the gloss smells faintly like vanilla. Yummy. I will post a proper review of these soon. After that is a Max Factor blush in Mulberry that I received with my first paper edition of Rouge Mag. This is quite dark on me, so I’m going to try it out again in a few months time when my face is naturally a shade or so darker due to sun exposure. (and no, not excessive sun exposure – I am a skin care safety freak! sunscreen people! sunscreen!!) Next are my two NYX Blushes in Natural and Peach that I am looooooving. I have already posted a review on Peach, but might try to post about Natural soon. Next is Lanolips in “Rose”, because a girl can never have too many tubes of Lanolips. Fact. Above that is the NYX Eye Palette in Guru, which I am really impressed by. The pigmentation of the eyeshadow is really impressive, for such an inexpensive product. Below that are my 3 new NYX glosses in “Strawberry”, “Ballerina Pink” and “Peach” I think out of the three, Peach is my favourite. These have a very strong lemony/plastic smell which is a bit offputting but because the gloss lasts forever I can let that slide. Finally is my new Poshe Topcoat. This has been an absolute lifesaver for me. I am notorious for chipping my nailpolish hours after applying, and get really impatient when waiting for the topcoat to dry. The Poshe topcoat dries in about 1-2 minutes, which is amazing.
